Hi All,
Hope your enjoying the first term of college and its almost half term time just seems to be flying by, I keep forgetting what day were on however im still managing to stay somewhat organised :) that’s always a good thing whoop. Totally wishing that there’s more hours in the day after all there’s lots to do. I will also never look at =7 in the same way that’s to Wes (VP Social Activities), hers a bit of a random challenge can you figure out what =7 means?
Ok back to the blog xp now what I have been up to, firstly as you may know there’s been some new club and societies that Wes our VP of Social activates had no doubt told you about, you should go and have a look at them and if you don’t think there’s a club or society there for you just let us know what one you would like to see and well help you set it up. I have also attended the Labour conference 28.9.2011and was asking the party members what they thought of votes at 16 and the current changes such as youth unemployment and the replacements of financial support and for the most part they were supportive in what we had to say. On this note though I am also keen to see what other political figures have to say about these topics and im thinking of doing a young people question time (I know a wee bit political and this will be a small part of my blog xp) so that it gives you the opportunity to put them on the spot and ask all them the lovely questions you have always wanted to ask, let me know what you think. Also I attended FEstival , this was an NUS run event that ran workshops such as HE in FE, If I was a rich man (about student finance) and votes @16 (we were a bit spoilt for choice there were so many awesome things going on) I also helped support a work shop (hoping I did ok, but I think it went well had a lot of questions and thas always a good thing in my books and you can then tailor it more towards them) oh and there’s also a networking day that I attended and got to meet up with local Unions, got to catch up and were look at more partnership work :). Plus the liberation and representational groups should be starting up soon so keep an eye out for them and feel free to join them.
Im currently working on the new class rep training, it has changed a fair bit from last year and im pleased to say that its a lot more across college than ever before and class reps have started been elected, if you have any question or quires about been a class rep or just want to know more in general our door is always open so just drop by ((B4 Broadway also check out http://dudleysu.org/yourunion/class_rep_resources) : ), The exec meetings are running nice and smoothly I don’t think I have ever know an Exec meeting to have so many action points and for the exec to start to take on their own items on the agenda, There doing a fab job and will keep getting better and better and I just wanted to say a big thanks to them and the NUS sales team for the work they have done and will continue to do. Awesome volunteer work guys keep it up! :)
Well ill end on that note before I don’t stop typing and I will try more consistent blogs that are smaller to prevent them from being too long. One last thing let me know what you think on the canteen, the bursary system the college has and the areas of the college that have seen an upgrade over the summer, Im keen to represent your views on these topics as they have been changes and I want to see what you think on that change and how we can continue to improve things for you the students after all it what we’re here for so don’t for get to get involved
Kim ^^
