Students need to register with the library at the start of every academic year. To do this a yellow registration card needs to be obtained from the library staff at the issue desk. This card needs to be filled in and signed to say that the terms and conditions will be observed before being returned to a member of library staff along with a current Dudley College ID card. Once this is has been done, Library staff will update your library record and your ID card will then act as your library card. Please remember to have your card with you at all times.
Students are able to borrow up to 8 library books on production of their current Dudley College registration card. Most books are issued for four weeks but some are restricted to a one-week loan because of high demand. Some books in the lending section of the library are labelled "set text". These are reference copies of key texts shelved in the main body of the libraries. Books and other materials may be reserved free of charge. If requested items are not available in the library students can put in a recommendation for the books and it will be considered for purchase.
There are photocopiers at all 3 libraries that are able to provide A4 and A3 copies. Photocopying cards can be purchased at any of the libraries for £1 and provide credits for 20 A4 photocopies. A3 photocopies cost 2 credits.
A selection of stationary is available for purchase including pens, pencils and paper.
Overdue items are charged fines at the rate of 10p per item per day. Fines will continue to accumulate until the items are returned or renewed. Please make sure that books are returned on time to avoid fines. Books may be renewed if not required by other users. It is possible to renew by telephone, personal visit or online. There is an answer phone service outside of opening hours and a book box outside each library in which books can be returned. The library will send out overdue notices by post two weeks after an item is overdue. All items taken out on a student's record are the responsibility of that student. Students are expected to pay the replacement cost of any lost or damaged books. Students need to return any outstanding items at the end of each academic year otherwise they will become a defaulter and will be unable to register with the library at the start of the next year until the items are returned and the fines paid off.
The on-line library catalogue can be searched for books and other materials. You may also use the catalogues to check which books you have on loan and renew them if necessary. To access the catalogue, click the appropriate link for your location:
