Your UnionClass rep Resources

About being a class rep:

As a Class rep you are the representative of your class.

The main purpose of the class reps job is to gather the views of their classmates and convey these constructively at different levels such as with their tutor, curriculum managers meeting (cm meeting) and student’s council (depending on what the issue is will depend where it is raised).

The class rep can discuss with their tutor in an informal way to discuss any issues arising and these meetings will give you your opportunity to put forward your class’ views on the learning about teaching they are receiving. These meetings discuss how the course is going generally and consider any issues arising from student feedback.

The opportunities

During your time as a Class rep you will also be invited to other meetings with other Class reps, with the curriculum manager for your area to make sure that at all levels the College is able to understand and react to what being a student is like. It is also you opportunity to raise any course issues such as an issue about the quality of resources available for your course and just to give you the chance to present your classes views on what they do and do not like about the course and any recommendations they may have for improvements. Also if anything was unresolved with the meeting with the tutor they can be brought up in this meeting.

Class reps also get the opportunity to go to student council and this is where college issues are discussed (an issue that is across the college and affecting the student body). This is also where the students can hold the students’ union accountable along with telling the union what your want us to do for you.

At each of these meetings your role is simple; to make sure that the staff know what it is like to be a student and to pass on information about your experience. To help improve your course and the college.

As a Class rep you have the following specific responsibilities:

#To make yourself available to members of the class and to gather their views, concerns and opinions. (Remember that positive comments are useful – it helps the College to know what they are doing successfully and that they do not need to change in that area)
#To attend and participate in CM Meetings.
#To give feedback to members of your class about what happened at the meetings and get their views on the outcome
