Your Union – Motions

A motion is a written proposal that will be about a across college issue (something effecting the whole student body) and how you the students want it to be solved along with the action you want the student union to take on your behalf.

Any Student of Dudley college that is a member of the students’ union

Two students need to put their names to the motion
- a proposer
and
- a seconder

Both of whom must be full members of the Union. Then you will be asked to give a brief speech in favour of your motion at student council where it is discussed.

All motions need to be submitted to the students union office.
In order for motions to be considered they need to be submitted 3 days prior to Student Council.

Their purpose is to identify what the across college issues are and to see what the student opinions are on that topic such as so they agree or disagree with the topic From this there will be a decision on what action will be taken and what the students want the students’ union to do on behalf of this topic.

This allows students to have their say in what their students’ union focuses and spends time upon. It can also state what the Union’s stance is with regards to a particular issue, mandate Officers to carry out particular courses of action, such as lobbying and what campaigns to work on.

They can be about any across college issue that is effecting the student body

Can you tick the following before you submit your motion?

* I am passionate about the issue.
* It is across college issue (across campus)
* The campaign is relevant for students.
* The issue has not been properly addressed by the Union before.
* The campaign has clear action points.
* The campaign is winnable.

Remember: The most important part of your campaign is, of course, the issue!
